NY Times will.i.am Interview

In a recent NY Times interview, will.i.am speaks the truth about electro music in today's music:

The Black Eyed Peas’ latest album, “The Beginning,” sheds the political sermonizingof its predecessor, “The E.N.D.,” in favorof a let’s-party hedonism. How would you describe its sound?

It’s electro. Electro is today’s disco — making electronic musicnot for the sake of selling it but for sharingit and touring around the world D.J.-ing.
A friend of mine says that nightlife represents the greatest waste of human energy inthe history of mankind.

Your friend probably doesn’t go to clubs. Right now in the world, clubbing is needed. It’s a time when people want to rub shoulders against people theydon’t know and share, even if the sharing is expressing your like over a beat.
O.K., but clubbing seems to invite a lot of drinking and drug use.

So do restaurants. I could go to a restaurant and get drunk. I could go to a restaurant and eat all the wrong food and get freaking diabetes and high cholesterol.

That's all, I just thought it was interesting....

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Yo! It's been a minute since I blogged last, I've certaintly been busy and haven't really found much material worth blogging about. But, now I'm back to give you the good, bad, and ugly of 2011 so far.

The Good: Skream & Example- Shot Yourself in The Foot Again.
This song is unsurprisingly epic- of course the pairing of British hip hop star Example and dubstep heavyweight Skream is going to end in positive things. I heard that there is more material to come from these two.

The Bad: Drake- Let's Call It Off
Ok, this song isn't the worst, but when compared to the Peter, Bjorn, and John original it is quite a bastardization. Worse yet, is the blog Trials and Tribulations calling Drake an indie rapper. Really?

The Ugly: Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me

This is probably one of the best Britney Spears song ever, but it is a sad day for dubstep. The word on the street is that Britney's producers enlisted the help of some high profile dubsteppers including Rusko to make some beats for her new album. Of course, most of the material they made didn't make it on the album and the result is a 20 second dubsteppish moment. The reason why this is such a lascivious disaster is because it is the beginning of the complete mainstreaming of dubstep and subsequent downfall. Although it was always inevitable, it is certainly cause to weep.
