Pretty Lights Music Videos

In the past week Pretty Lights came out with some awesomely trippy music videos on their youtube page. Most of them have random old school 60's and 70's video clips mixed in with equally retro trippy visuals. The visuals work really well with the music and heighten to psychdelic vibe Pretty Lights already has. The video for "Future Blind" is an artfully done portrayal of couple having a fight inside a color changing box. Pretty sweet stuff! See for yourself below:

La Blogotheque- Take Away Shows

I recently made an amazing discovery: Take Away Shows by La Blogotheque. This blog in France meets up with a bunch of different artists and films them doing jam sessions. The videos are excellently filmed and all unique. You feel like you are part of this intimate moment with the band. It's amazing and a few of them have given me the chills. It's incredible how a video can really impact the way you appreciate the music. Check em out:







This next one is with an artist I saw in Copenhagen. Gaspar Claus is a celloist that makes very unconventional music. I saw him at the CPH Documentary Film Festival and he played behind a white sheet that had video being projected on to it. The director of the Take Away Shows, Vincent Moon, was there and he was filming him while he playing. So videos of him playing were being projected on to the white sheet at times and then they would shine lights to create effects with shadows. All while this was happening, he was playing music that was schizophrenic. At points it was like terrible sound effects that made you cringe and then it would suddenly break into beautiful music. It was an incredible experience and my description certainly doesn't do it justice.

Kanye West- Runaway short film

Earlier in the week Kanye released a 30 minute short film called "Runaway." It's basically about him falling in love with a phoenix-girl creature and exposing her to the corruption of the world. In essence its a 30 minute music video, but it is so artistically done and epically beautiful that it's definitely worth a look. There are moments that will give anyone goosebumps.



It also got me really excited for the release of his new album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" which is slated for release on Nov. 22nd. Here are some of the songs that have already been released:

Kanye West- Portrait of Power

This video portrait of Kanye West's new beat is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. His new album is going to drop this fall and according to Pitchfork some of the songs are being produced by RZA, Pete Rock, and Q-Tip and one of his influences for the album is Thom Yorke. So, who knows what it will be like. It definitely will be different, but if the songs are anywhere near as good as this first single, it will be another great Kanye album.

This is a great song, but this video is so creepy that it gave me a bad trip and I'm dead sober.

Toyz Noize

I saw Toy Story 3 yesterday and it was really well done- a very clever way to end the series. In honor of that, I give you Toyz Noize by Pogo. Pogo only uses special effects and chords from movies to make his music. It's really inventive and painstaking work and I'd say wins the originality award for the week.
